The figure in the small topmost medallion appears at first sight to have a cruciform nimbus (suggesting Christ blessing) but on closer inspection this is just the result of dubious restoration work. The figure holds a book in his left hand and has his right hand raised with the open palm showing - a gesture suggestive of preaching, rather than blessing. The second panel shows a fragmentary figure on the left touching the face of another man (whose hands are held together in prayer) while another figure on the right raises his hands in surprise/wonder.
