Description:
The first part of Revelation is directed to the bishops of the seven churches of Asia Minor (signified by the candlesticks in panel 3). These bishops are referred to in the text as 'angels', e.g. Revelation 2:1; "Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write: These things saith he, who holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks". The artist has therefore depicted the bishops of Aisa as standard groups of adoring and/or censing angels
