To the left are four labourers wielding distinctive beak-shaped hoes. To the right, separated from them by a sinuous and gnarled grape vine, is a hooded figure who reaches out to the vine with his right hand and in his left holds a pruning knife - note the curved blade with a subsidiary chopping blade on the back.
