Panel 06 - Samson killing a lion
In Judges 14:6, Samson encounters a threatening lion and tears it apart with his bare hands (his goat-herding here is a later
interpolation - in Judges he is simply passing through a vineyard on his way to visit a woman in Thamnatha). Passing the same place
a while later he finds that bees have built their nest in the lion's mouth and he takes honey from it. The 'sweetness that came from
the mouth of death' became another type for the Resurrection (the sweetness of salvation coming from Christ's death).
This scene, like the breaking of the gates of gaza in panel 04, also appears in the sculpted archivolts over the right hand
doorway of the transept portal just to the north of this window.
