As the Golden Legend puts it, after hearing from the princes about the Bishop's great worth, the Emperor sends them off with treasures for him, saying "bring gifts to Nicholas in my name and ask him not to threaten us anymore, but to pray the Lord for me and my reign."

This is the conclusion to the episode begun in panel 13. Here we see two of the three princes freed by the Emperor after his dream of the wrathful Nicholas, carrying imperial gifts to the saint. Formally it is a clear echo of the panel below (panel 08), where a sailor carries a sack of grain to give to the saint.
