Description:
On the right, the fatally wounded Roland rests against his shield. To the left, Baudouin returns empty handed after an unsucessful search for water to ease his friend's passing.
The poignancy of this scene is somewhat offset by the rather comical heads, the unfortunate result of a much later restoration.
