Description:
It has been suggested that this is the "Domini quo vadis" episode
(Peter's meeting with Christ outside Rome which convinces him to return
and face his martyrdom) but it doesn't really fit - Peter's papal tiara,
vestments and keys have a decidedly anti-narrative effect, even if Christ
is carrying the Cross. Instead I suspect this was intended as an iconic/hieratic
double image of Christ and His representative on earth.
