Panel A5 - The miracle of the golden armlets
Even as bishop, Martin continues to give his clothing to the poor and needy. One day, having given his rich shirt to a shivering
beggar, Martin sends his deacon out to buy him a new one. The deacon, angered by what he sees as his master's profligacy, buys
the cheapest shift he can find. When Martin is celebrating mass, he raises his hands for the elevatio - and the cheap
material slides back leaving his naked forearms exposed for all to see. Immediately an angel appears, with a
pair of golden armbands which he slides over the saint's bare arms, to preserve his dignity.
