Panel D1 - Martial healing a man ?
Although sometimes described in the literature as the resurrection of St Austriclinian (one of Martial's companions), this scene bears
none of the distinctive hallmarks of that episode - the key element of which is that St Peter gives Martial his staff and tells him
to touch the dead man with it. Here there is no staff and Martial touches the man's head with his hand. Moreover in resurrection scenes
generally the revived person is normally shown getting up from the recumbant position - not standing erect as in this case. Overall, this
looks far more like the healing of a blind person, although arguably the fictive architecture might represent a tomb.
