Panel D1 - Zacharias writing his son's name
Zacharias was struck dumb as punishment for disbelieving the angel's message that he and his wife were to have a son, despite
their old age. Here he is shown being presented with the newborn John and writing the name he is unable to speak. He writes it
on what appears to be a wax-tablet diptych. Although a common image, this differs from Luke's account of events (see next panel,
A2).
