Pikk Hermann (pikk, meaning tall or long seems to be a popular name for Estonian landmarks) is the main surviving feature of the 14th century castle built by the Knights of the Sword. It still bears the scars of shell damage received in sixteenth century. Even from its base, the view is spectacular and gives a sense of what an important military stronghold whis once was. The pink neo-classical builsing to the right now houses the Estonian parliament
