The Swedish Gate (Zviedru varti) was built in 1698 after the Swedish occupation of Riga. The rooms above where the official residence of the city exeutioner. It's architectural style provides an interesting contrast to the sharp neo-classicism of Tornu iela - and indeed there is a strangely different atmosphere on either side of the gatehouse. There is a pleasant courtyard cafe/bar on the left of Aldaru iela just before the gate, though sadly I don't remember its name.
