Makaras are crocodile-like mythical beasts popular as embelishments in Hindu architecture all the way from Rajasthan to Nepal. Usually, as here, they are used as water-spouts, much like the gargoyles on European Gothic buildings. This one is on the side of the Jaswant Singh I chattri at Mandore (1681).
