The second of a series of obstacles standing in the way of any attacker was the Suraj Pol ('Sun-Gate'), which is still in excellent condition. After passing through this narrow gateway, the path doubles back on itself with high walls either side. Defenders could have dropped rocks or boiling oil onto the attackers who would have been trapped like rats.
