Royal  cenotaphs  at  Devi  Kund  -  4  of  6
Although the light was getting a bit dull by the time I shot this picture, I've included it anyway because it shows the three different types of cremation memorial. Chattris for royal or noble adult men (white structure on the right) typically have a canopy with an upright stele engraved with the name and achievements of the deceased and often, a portrait. Royal wives, on the other hand have a canopied structure covering a horizontal plaque carved with a pair of footprints (these two types of stela are shown on the nex two slides). The small white cube on the left of the picture is a child's memorial - these are never canopied.
