Although it's usually known as the Temple of Hercules, there's actually no evidence to suggest which god this temple was dedicated to. What is not in any doubt however
is when it was made; a dedicatory inscription records that it was built under Geminius Marcianus who was governer between 161 and 166 AD. The temple, situated in the heart of Amman, is in very
poor condition, most of the stone having been robbed long ago. An American financed project has restored part of the portico but there's not a great deal to see.
The views over the city do however offer some compensation.
