Leaving the temple of Bel, one walks along a short stretch of road which has now lost most of its columns, dodges the petrol tankers on the modern road and arrives at the main section of the Cardo Maximus, marked by this magnificent triple arch. Although historically referred to as the triumphal arch, there is no record of it's being associated with any specific victory so the name may simply be a convenience.
