SYRIA ::: PALMYRA

Diocletian's  Camp  -  1  of  2
Palmyra's semi-autonomous state was brought to a bloody end when the city was sacked by Roman troops under Aurelian in 273AD. It was subsequently brought under direct Roman rule in 300AD and Diocletian built a substantial garrison, almost a town in its own right, at the western end of the cardo maximus.
