In keeping with the highly international nature of the archaeological work in Syria, the area around Diocletian's camp was excavated by teams from Poland. Walking around the excellent national museum in Damascus can be a polyglottal experience - each of the displays for major excavations were captioned in Arabic and in the national tongue of the archaeologists working that site - English, German, French, Polish and many others besides.
