Whilst the columns are made of imported limestone, the wall blocks, like most of resafeh are made of the local gypsum-rich stone. This stone glints and shines like crystal in the powerful desert sun - something which must have presented a truely awe-inspiring image to weary pilgrims coming to it across the desert.
