About 25km north of Qasr ibn Wardan across rough desert piste lie the meagre remains of El-Anderin. Of this 6th century Byzantine settlement, very little is still visible above ground. The limited excavations that have taken place here and the number of mounds suggest that there is much of interest waiting to be uncovered - should the 'fashions' in international archaeology ever swing towards the Byzantine period!
