Outside the ministry of defense building on the outskirts of Beirut is this extraordinary sculpture by the French artist Arman (Armand Fernandez). Arman was a member of the Nouveaux Réalistes art movement and is best known for his 'accumulations' of used and discarded consumer goods. This time however he went for 'used and discarded' T-34 tanks, howitzers and armoured personnel carriers, all embeded in concrete. The sculpture, unveiled in 1996, weighs over 5000 tons.
