One of the sad consequences of Nepal's popularity with tourists is the proliferation of stalls selling trinkets and souvenirs. Most of the handicrafts are poor quality and few are made locally - much of it is mass produced in workshops in India or by Tibetan immigrants in Jawlakhel. As a result, very little of the money spent by tourists goes to the local Nepali community.
