NEPAL ::: CHANGU NARYAN |

The Nagas are a set of 8 snake deities who appear frequently in carvings around the Kathmandu valley. In this superb example on the side of a Krishna shrine the stonemason has added snake scales to a section of ordinary beading and terminated it with a Naga figure to give it more interest. For me, it is often the small scale details that make Nepalese buildings so exciting - though sadly they are often lost when restoring temples after earthquake damage.
