A great many of the pagoda style temples around the Kathmandu valley have small erotic carvings near the base of the wooden struts which support the roof. Normally they are about 10 inches high and painted in naturalistic colours. The carvings shown here were on a small two-tiered Parvati temple just North of the footbridges across the Bagmati River and are unusual in having been roughly painted in silver.
