Just before a festival you see lots of traders selling big bundles of fresh tree-leaves for use as spiritually pure plates at ceremonial meals. This was shot the day before the start of Dasain (Dushera) in Durbar Square. Leaves of the Sal and Pipal trees are often used for this purpose, as well as the banana leaves seen here, which would have been brought up to the valley from the Terai district of Nepal on the Indian border.
