NEPAL ::: THIMI (THE 'VILLAGE OF POTTERS')

Drying the pots - 1 of 4
Finished pots are arranged in the side streets of the village to dry in the sun. Usually the only place left to walk is a thin path on the shadiest side of the street. The bundles of straw will be used to build the kilns. The dull grey mound on the right of the picture is a fresh kiln, ready for firing. This picture was taken in October 96 just after the UML (United Marxist Leninist) Party won a landslide in the national elections - electioneering graffiti can still be seen on the buildings on the left.
