A closer view of the village showing the traditional defensive architecture. The old houses on the right have no windows at all on the ground floor (just one small doorway) and only very small ones on the first story - a standard feature of tradtitional Yemeni architecture which makes almost any building easy to defend against attackers. On top of the hill above the village are the ruins of an old turkish fort.
