Close up of the fabulous decorative brickwork on the minaret. Look closely at the left hand opening near the top and you can see the loudspeaker which, along with those of twenty or thirty other mosques in the area, split the air every morning half an hour before sunrise with the day's first call to prayer. Strangely, I always find that however tired I am, the sound of the muezzin's call is so atmospheric that I don't mind being woken up at 05:00.
