If you just start setting up a tripod in the Yemen, it's a safe bet that somebody will rush up to pose in front of it. Whilst you get this in other countries, in the Yemen unlike say in India or Nepal, nobody EVER asked me for money after being photographed. Working with a big cumbersome medium format camera seems to evoke a very different response from people than what one gets when working on 35mm. People seemed proud that anyone would go to so much trouble to photograph their home. I also found people were very curious about the big Pentax 6x7 and I would often have to wait some time for all the people in the crowd of curious onlookers to take their turn at peering through the viewfinder.
