YEMEN ::: SANA'A

Rooftop view of the old town - 3 of 3
A view from the same rooftop as the previous two but taken the following morning, shortly before a very heavy thunderstorm. Most of the time I was in Sana'a the weather followed a fixed pattern with bright sunny mornings during which the clouds built gradually before unleashing most of their contents in one go around lunchtime and spending the afternoon in desultry drizzling. In the narrow windy streets of the old town where there is no drainage, cobbled paths turn into rippling streams within minutes of the rain starting. I was often left wondering what quagmires there must have been here before the Italians financed the laying of paving stones during the 1980's
